Kelanawisata.id, Yogyakarta - To ensure the destination is ready to serve tourists, the Borobudur Authority held a Workshop on Destination Management for the Borobudur Tourism Area. The workshop discussed preparations by various parties, including the Police, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the Central Java Provincial Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), and tourism communities such as GIPI DIY.
The event took place on Friday (November 28) and was divided into two sessions. The first session featured Mr. Frans Teguh (Senior Advisor for Sustainable Development and Conservation at the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism), and the second session featured Mr. Fadjar Hutomo (Senior Advisor for Crisis Management at the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism).
The workshop began with an opening address by Mr. Frans Teguh, who discussed the importance of coordination in tourism to achieve excellent service. Tourism is not solely the responsibility of the Tourism Office or the Ministry of Tourism, but rather a synergy among various parties. The security sector, service providers, and disaster management must collaborate to create safe destinations.
In addition to collaboration, leadership is essential to ensure the effective implementation of tourism initiatives. “Leadership is crucial because it requires mobilizing stakeholders to work optimally. At the very least, we need to know what needs to be done and who our partners are to build a strong foundation for tourism,” said Mr. Frans Teguh.
The event continued with presentations by the Police, delivered by Mr. Rakhman; the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), delivered by Mr. Ali; and the Central Java Provincial Disaster Management Agency (BPBD). Mr. Ali explained that, to prepare for a megathrust earthquake, a Disaster-Resilient Village Forum has been established along the southern coast of Yogyakarta. “Twelve villages in Gunungkidul, five in Bantul, and ten in Kulon Progo. This forum comprises village tourism groups and other village elements so that when a disaster strikes, they are already prepared,” said Mr. Ali Sadikin.
The second session then discussed Disaster Preparedness in Tourism Areas and the dissemination of Ministry of Tourism Regulation No. 6 of 2025. The discussion received responses from participants, such as Mr. Edwin from GIPI DIY. This discussion forum served as a platform for exchanging views on tourism preparedness in developing destinations capable of providing excellent service to tourists.
