kelanawisata.id, Boyolali – Located at the foot of the Merapi and Merbabu mountains, Boyolali is known as the “City of Milk.” This is because Boyolali produces millions of liters of milk every year. According to 2023 data from goodstats.id, the top five sub-districts in Boyolali for cow’s milk production are Mojosongo with 12.02 million liters, Tamansari with 7.94 million liters, Musuk with 6.66 million liters, Ampel with 3.93 million liters, and Gladagsari with 3.47 million liters. As reported by Kompas.com, in 2021, there were 94,000 dairy cows in Boyolali. The daily milk production in Boyolali amounts to 136 tons.

The geography of Boyolali Regency supports livestock farming operations. The cool climate at the foot of Mount Merapi and Mount Merbabu adds to the peaceful, rural atmosphere of the farming community. The name Boyolali comes from the phrase “Baya wis lali.” According to Solopos.com, this phrase was uttered by Ki Ageng Pandan Arang, who was followed by his wife and children.

Boyolali is also known as the “New Zealand of Java.” This nickname stems from Boyolali’s reputation as the top milk-producing region in Central Java. The iconic cow statue and the Lembu Suro building further solidify Boyolali’s status as the “City of Milk.” Additionally, there is a Pure Milk Monument near Boyolali Market.

Now, Boyolali can serve as an alternative tourist destination for travelers seeking a rural farming experience. In addition to being a major dairy-producing region, this vegetable-growing area also supports rural-based tourism. Travelers can choose Boyolali as their travel destination.
