A Festive Event! The 2025 Imogiri Sub-District National Carnival Features a Cultural Theme

kelanawisata.id, Bantul - Thousands of residents packed Imogiri Timur–Barongan Road. The Imogiri Sub-District National Carnival was held on August 24, 2025. Participants paraded from Demi Field to the former Imogiri Old Market. The carnival display took place in front of the Imogiri Horse Statue.


The total number of participants in this National Carnival was 24 groups, comprising student, general, and village categories. Participants showcased various cultural performances, such as traditional dances. For the student category, the focus was on drum corps, military brigades, honor guards, and decorated vehicles.
For the village and general categories, there were 7 contingents. Participants performed a blend of gamelan, electone, band, and string music. Various contingents showcased arts and crafts, such as batik, dance, caping, and various other displays.


The carnival began at 12:30 PM WIB at Demi Field on Imogiri Timur Street. The contingents then moved south toward the Imogiri Horse Statue. The participating contingents performed a display in front of the Horse Statue south of Imogiri Market. Subsequently, the contingents continued their journey toward the Old Imogiri Market.


According to Yogyapos.com, the number of participating contingents this year, as reported by the Imogiri Sub-district Head, has decreased. According to the Committee Chair, P. Hantoro, this National Carnival serves as a platform to strengthen and foster a sense of national identity. Additionally, the carnival provides entertainment for the community.


The theme of this year’s Imogiri Sub-district National Carnival is “Preserving Culture, Building National Identity.” This annual event is routinely held to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia. The carnival serves as an annual tourist attraction to celebrate Independence Day. (R)
