kelanawisata.id, Karimunjawa - The Barikan Kubro Festival is an event held by the people of Karimunjawa as a sign of gratitude for the bounty of the sea and the land. Additionally, the Barikan Kubro Festival is held once a year to welcome the Baratan season (West Wind). Barikan Kubro takes place on Thursday Pon leading into Friday Wage. This year, it will be held from July 10–12, 2025.
The Barikan Kubro festivities begin on Thursday morning with preparations for the gunungan. In the morning, residents prepare tumpeng and gunungan in their respective RTs. Next, residents begin dressing up and getting ready to head to the Karimunjawa intersection. The Barikan Kubro Festival showcases local arts from Karimunjawa. During the carnival, various tumpeng from every village are paraded by residents around Karimunjawa’s main streets.
The procession begins in the afternoon with various gunungan and tumpeng. This event serves as a celebration of gratitude for the people of Karimunjawa, bringing together people of all ages, social groups, and ethnicities.
The Karimunjawa Archipelago consists of six distinct ethnic groups: the Javanese, Madurese, Bugis, Bajo, Mandar, and Buton. The Barikan Kubro celebration at night is lively and captivating. Various art forms from the six ethnic groups in Karimunjawa are showcased.
This year, the Barikan Kubro Festival is being held in conjunction with the Pakudjembara Festival. The Pakudjembara Festival is an event that highlights the arts and culture of six regencies on the Muria Peninsula. Performances from the regencies of Pati, Kudus, Jepara, Rembang, Demak, and Blora are presented on the final night of the Barikan Kubro Festival series. The performances include dances, martial arts, and other forms of traditional art.
